Congratulations, You’re Engaged! Tips for Planning Your Wedding

Congratulations on your engagement! 💍 Now that you’ve said “yes,” it’s time to dive into the exciting world of wedding planning. Don’t worry—I’m here to help you navigate the process with some practical tips and insights from my own experience, as well as what I’ve learned from working with countless brides as a wedding photographer.

Step 1: Announce Your Engagement

Before diving into planning, take a moment to celebrate and share your big news! Announce your engagement to friends and family, and don’t forget to book an engagement session. I offer complimentary engagement sessions with my wedding packages, so let’s capture this special moment in your love story!

Step 2: Start with the Basics

1. Decide on a General Location

Where do you envision saying “I do”? Think about whether you want a local wedding or a destination celebration.

2. Book Your Venue and Photographer ASAP

The venue and photographer are two of the most important vendors to book early since their calendars fill up fast. From my experience (and my own wedding planning!), securing these first will give you a solid foundation to build the rest of your day. Pro tip: The average wedding is booked 12 months out, but if you’re like me, you might be planning on a shorter timeline. I booked mine 8 months out—oops! Tips for choosing a wedding photographer!

3. Discuss Hosting and Budget

Decide who is hosting the wedding and set a realistic budget. Knowing this upfront will help guide all your decisions.

Step 3: Build Your Guest List

Start working on your guest list and determining the size of your wedding. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, this will influence your venue, catering, and so much more.

Step 4: Set Up a Wedding Website

Create an online platform where guests can find all the details about your wedding. It’s a great way to share your story, collect RSVPs, and keep everyone informed.

Step 5: Book Your Key Vendors

Once you’ve secured your venue and photographer, it’s time to start researching and booking other vendors. Here’s a checklist to get started:

• Videographer

• Florist

• Hair and Makeup Artists

• Planner/Coordinator

• Caterer

• Band or DJ

• Baker for your cake and desserts

• Bar and Beverage Services

Pro Tip: Plan Ahead for Your Guests

Consider reserving a block of rooms at a nearby hotel for out-of-town guests. This makes it easier for them to plan their stay and ensures everyone is close to the festivities.
